Ok, that doesn't really work as a song. The dates for trimming and getting rid of elm trees go from the 1st of September to March 31st--not really convenient tree trimming time because usually there is snow on the ground October through to April. Well today seemed the perfect day to do yard work and trim a little. Just as we thought we were approaching the end of our yard clean-up, my dad arrived. And boy was he ready! He took down some major branches of the tree overhanging our house with the hand saw. ( John had already taken care of the branches within his reach. ) Dad is enthusiastic when it comes to saws. Anyways he really got into it. Next thing you know, Gary from across the street along with his neighbour's son were over to watch. Next Millie came over. Gary left and returned with a chainsaw...that's when the real fun began. A couple hours and three trees were gone from our yard. Don't worry we still have plenty! (Besides they were scraggly nasty Manchurian Elms). We look forward to the fact our yard clean ups will be less work because these trees will no longer be contributing to the mess. Needless to say we now has a downed forest in our yard and could use a wood chipper and some big trucks to haul the wood away.
Thanks for the help Dad and being willing to monkey your way through those trees. I've always liked this quotation:

looks familiar.
We took down an entire hackberry tree this morning.
I'm impressed if you used hand saws.
Oh my word, you father is so crazy. I love that about him. He doesn't care if he has to climb a tree, he just does it. (And probably has a blast while doing so.)
What really gets me is that Andrew has nothing of that side of his father. Can someone explain that to me???
I think some of the crazy climbing goes with the name Ian.
We had a few trees in Thunder Bay fall in our yard, and almost ruin stuff of ours or our neighbours. There are still trees that need to come down, but when the chainsaw went missing, work halted.
We started out with a hand saw and I only had intentions of cutting of some of the larger branches of the tree that they wanted to remove. But then one of Jennifer and John's neighbours brought his almost new electric chain saw over. It sliced through the tree so easily that I kept asking, "What do you want down next?" So we took down three big trees with only minor damage to the house. It was fun.
